Perks of an At Home Family Session

Think about all the times you’ve looked around at the little world you’ve created and wished you could hold onto those moments forever. Well, stop wishing and let’s make it happen. Keep scrolling for a few reasons an at home family session could be right for you during any season.

1. IT’S WHERE YOU FEEL MOST COMFORTABLE.

Your favorite place to snuggle and read a book, your kids’ favorite toys, your pet…it’s all there. Speaking of pets, I’ve had clients from past sessions want to include their dogs in their outdoor photos, but the thought of their unpredictability swayed them the other way. At home, it’s a non-issue. Plus, it opens it up for those with cats, bunnies, hamsters, birds…snakes…whatever you’ve got!

2. YOUR PHOTOS WILL TELL YOUR ACTUAL STORY.

My goal is to fade into the background a bit and make room for your magic to play out. We’ll collaborate ahead of time to come up with a few activities that are meaningful to you, but that’s all a scheme. Don’t get me wrong, those are huge aspects of your session, but more importantly, they make way for the in-between, as we settle into a flow and you’re all more comfortable with me being around. The laughter, the hugs, the look on your family’s faces as everyone eases into the experience- those are the sweet spots.

3. the SIMPLICITY of it all.

Feel free to tidy up a bit but let me tell you a little something. Whenever I look at old videos or photos of my son growing up, I always look at the background. The Thomas trains on the floor, the easel with an unrecognizable drawing displayed, the photos in frames on the piano, the record album propped up against the wall above the turntable- even the clutter that inevitably finds its way into the corner of a room. All of those elements tell a story, rounding out the memory of the moment in one perfect little package.

4. YOU CAN DRESS COMFORTABLY AND FOREGO THE SHOES.

Jeans and a sweater, a dress, sweats, barefoot in your jammies- it’s your call! If you’ve ever planned outdoor family photo session outfits for your whole bunch, I’m pretty confident you probably wished it would be the last time. Give yourself a break and allow comfort to be your top priority.

5. FLEXIBLE TIMING.

I admit that I schedule outdoor sessions near golden hour 99% of the time. The soft light is beautiful and it’s impossible to resist! With in-home sessions, the only things you really need to consider are how the sun hits your property and where you want most of your session to take place. As long as there is a window we can make it work. Side note: I do turn off all interior lights so there aren’t any conflicting color casts in your photos.

6. EVERYTHING YOU MIGHT NEED IS RIGHT THERE.

Diaper? Check. Snacks? Check. Quick bathroom break? Check. You get the gist! I don’t know about you but I’m 100% a person who likes to be prepared. Being at home takes every ounce of stress out of the preparation for our time together.

7. AND LASTLY…I MIGHT NOTICE THINGS YOU MAY NOT.

I find beauty in every single thing I see. Especially, the seemingly mundane day-to-day. That’s my self-appointed superpower. So, where is the place you and your family are most likely to be your true selves, allowing beautifully authentic moments to flourish? Home.
